My Mema was a special lady. For as long as I can remember, she worked on the same quilt. Year after year, she hand cut each patch, meticulously sewed them together and then unfurled her creation marveling at how far she had come. She was determined to finish what she had started. It took her nearly twenty years despite polio keeping most of her strength to one side of her body. “Slowly but surely…” she’d say. And, she was absolutely right.
