The Hunting Owl

Blue Graphite and Gouache on Rives BFK, 16″ x 16″, 2015.

A young boy is hunting in the woods. The gun is as long as he and the small puff of clouds mirroring his breath are the only evidence of his camouflaged body. Slowly he creeps up on a shadowy shape in the rafters of the old oak trees. A shot rings out and the shape drops heavily before the young hunter. In the very last second the boy will swear the owl was looking directly at him. And that realization has haunted the old hunter to this very day…

The Fountain of Youth

Blue Graphite and Acrylic Highlights in Moleskine Journal, 5″ x 8″, 2014.

I created this sketch while on my honeymoon in Bali. An old man disguising himself as a fountain slips into a beautiful garden where a young woman comes often to rest. Unbeknownst to the old man’s trickery, she bathes in the warm waters as she’s silently pierced by the old man’s dreams, of her.
