What began as a commissioned piece quickly became an education on one of Persia’s most famous performers, Googoosh. I approached this piece wanting to create a Warhol-inspired silkscreen because I truly believe Warhol would have seen the value in creating a portrait of such an iconic figure in popular culture.
She seemed like a mythological creature to me. Hidden away like a time capsule for decades during the Islamic Revolution, the Persian pop singer never lost her spirit or pride for her country. Only recently emerging back into the entertainment scene, she surfaced, timeless.
